Bone Marrow Transplant

Image
Hello, Friends! So much has happened since last time I updated you all. Let's start with the most important update though. No, I did not meet Taylor Swift at our concert, but we moved up to the 6th row, I met her guitar player and one of her dancers, and I met an amazing cancer survivor (a sweet little girl named Elizabeth). We were so close to Taylor, it was insane! It was an amazing last night before this transplant journey I went on. As soon as we got back from Maryland from the concert, my family and I headed straight to Richmond. The next day, I checked into my room in the bone marrow transplant unit at VCU and started chemo. The type of chemo I received was called BEAM. It lasted for 6 days, and usually consisted of receiving chemo for a few hours at a time in the morning and at night. It was definitely a physically and mentally exhausting experience. I didn't feel any symptoms right away. The worst chemo was the Melphalan, which I received the last day.

‘Twas the Night Before Chemo

Hello, everyone! As many of you probably know, I start the next phase of my cancer journey tomorrow. I was diagnosed with a very rare type of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma called Primary Mediastinal B Cell Lymphoma. I will be going through 3 rounds of chemo starting tomorrow, which will consist of 4 days of chemo in a row and 3 weeks in between each round. After chemo is complete, I will be getting a stem cell transplant at VCU where I will go through more intensive chemo and they will take all of my stem cells out of my bone marrow, clean them, and put them back in. This will be a 3 week process in the hospital and then I will have to stay in Richmond for 3 weeks after that. I have so many feelings going through my head right now, so I thought I would recreate one of my favorite Christmas stories! 😂😊 Thank you again for all of your support and please keep the prayers coming! ‘Twas the Night Before Chemo ‘Twas the night before chemo and all through my head, Are thoughts of anxi

Much needed update :)

Hello everyone! First and foremost I just want to apologize for not posting on my blog in FOREVER! I have a lot to catch y'all up on, but before I do I just wanted to thank you all for your support and prayers during this challenging time in my life. I have been so blessed by all of you and feel so humbled and loved. I finished my last round of chemo on January 3, and was so ecstatic to be done and able to head back to JMU. I came back to school for three weeks and then had another PET Scan. We were almost positive that the scan would show absolutely nothing, but unfortunately, we were wrong. I began meeting with an oncologist at VCU who is a lymphoma specialist, and he wanted to do another PET Scan before we did a biopsy, because he thought that the spot on the first scan could just be scar tissue. We did another PET Scan at the beginning of this month, and the spot on my lung began to grow increase uptake. A week ago today, I had a lung resection where the surgeon took ou

How I Do My Makeup During Chemo

Hello, everyone! I hope you all had a fantastic New Year! I can’t believe I finish chemo in just TWO DAYS! I am so excited. I decided to make a video on how I do my makeup while going through chemo treatments. I hope this will be helpful to those who have lost their hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes like I have! https://youtu.be/C5n-kFBzPGo

PET Scan Results and Number 9

Image
Hello, everyone! I hope y’all had a great Thanksgiving! I just thought I would fill y’all in on what’s been going on in my life lately. To be honest, I really didn’t feel like writing this today, but I wanted to give an update so this will probably be short and sweet. Last week, I got the results of my PET scan, and while the tumor is still shrinking, it is still hard to tell what is cancer and what isn’t. That being said, we will not be removing a chemo drug and I will have to get another PET scan 3 weeks after my final  treatment to make sure everything is gone. This means that after the final treatment, there is still a chance that I may not be done. If there is any growth at all or anything that seems off, they will want to biopsy it and possibly do a STEM cell transplant. While there is also a good chance that I will be done after 3 more chemo treatments (this is what I am hoping and praying for) I will be 3 weeks into my Spring semester at JMU before I know for sure. So please

Seven was not Heaven, and Eight was not Great

Hello, everyone! I thought I would do a quick update on how the past two chemo treatments have gone. I seem to be feeling worse as my treatments go along, which is probably because my body is tired from fighting this tumor. I am extremely fatigued and nauseous a lot of the time, and I never really get back to feeling normal anymore. Although it is very exciting that I only have four chemo treatments left, it is still extremely difficult to face the symptoms every day. I have shared a lot about the positive things that have been happening, but I feel like I may have been sugarcoating a little bit. Don't get me wrong, I have had many great experiences the past couple of months, but I want to be an open book so that maybe I can help other people going through Hodgkins know what they can expect. My symptoms seem to change a little bit with every treatment, but I will try my best to explain the ones I have been struggling with the most. The first and most frustrating symptom I hav
